Diretor
Luís Miguel Carvalho is a Full Professor of the Instituto de Educação da ULisboa, where he has been carrying out research and teaching since 2005. He holds a PhD in Educational Sciences from the Faculty of Human Kinetics and the title of “aggregate” in Education with specialisation in Educational Policy and Administration, from IE-ULisboa.
He is the author of extensive scientific publication in the field of Education, having coordinated and participated in dozens of national and international research projects. He is a member of various scientific boards of Portuguese and foreign journals in the field of Education. He has held various scientific and pedagogic coordination positions in IE-ULisboa. In 2016, he was awarded the ULisboa Scientific Award in the field of Educational Sciences.
The Director is elected by the School Council.
The Director's term is four years and may be renewed once consecutively.
The Director is specifically responsible for:
- directing the Institute and representing it before the University's bodies and the outside world;
- preparing and presenting to the School Council the fundamental strategic options and the action plan for the term, the budget and annual activity plan, as well as the annual activity report and accounts;
- ensuring the implementation and streamlining of the strategic options, the activity plan, and the annual budget approved by the School Council;
- ensuring the smooth functioning of the Institute in all its research, teaching, and community service activities;
- ensuring compliance with the decisions made by the Institute's collegiate bodies;
- creating, suspending, and terminating non-degree programs and setting their tuition fees;
- authorizing the opening of competitive examinations for non-teaching and non-research staff;
- Approve the calendar and schedule of teaching activities, after consulting the Scientific Council and the Pedagogical Council;
- Guide and supervise the administrative and financial management of the Institute, ensuring the efficient use of its resources;
- Ensure the integration of the Institute's administrative management into the general administrative management of the University, in accordance with the law;
- Guide and supervise the Institute's human resources management;
- Implement, in accordance with the law, the recruitment of teaching and research staff;
- Promote, in accordance with the law, the recruitment of non-teaching and non-research staff;
- Perform all acts provided for by law regarding the status and careers of teaching and research staff working for the Institute, without prejudice to the duties of the Scientific Council.
